hello People
hope nobody blew off thier thumb with Fireworks,,...yesterday I went to
my friends factory and we just looked at
his new products and worked on a few projects.
I thought about Movie posters and what they mean to me since Ive seen
them for like 35 years...
when I spoke to Hurrell on tehe phone he said that the artist worked
from his Photos to do the art
so in a way, on MGM postres you are prrobably looking at a Hurrrell
Pic.... also a friend Bought Earl morans
slides that he used to do cheesecake... he has Marilyn Monroe and others
.. Its seems all the poster artist may have used the Photos to paint from...
Hurrell was from Covington Kentucky right By Cinci Ohio..
He shot on negatives 8x10 sheet stock with a view camera... useing two
2000 watt lights ( mole richarson)
I have a tape where he was doing a sesion with Sharon Stone... the sheet
film was One shot at a time... ( no motor dive) His style was very
simple..... he would use intense shadows.. Or paint with light.
Hurrell hund out at a artists colony in Lauguna beach and was originally
a painter.
Norma Sheare and Ramon Navarro gave him his first break along with a
woman named Pancho Barnes
discovering him with Navarro www.panchobarnes.com
I still pan to offer my interview with Hurrell with purchase of original
Photos I have for free as soon as I can get it listed.
Hurrell did the Jane Russell Outlaw in the straw Images and shot about a
whos who of Hollywood..
I found him as when I sold movie magazines I admired his work over
most others,
So when I was 23 I called him and talked like 1/2 hour and interviewed
him in a comical Chris Farley
type fashion..
So chances are You may have a Hurrell inspired Poster... he also worked
For Paramount and even Disney.
I sold some11 x 14 Prints to the Pancho Barnes archives in past.
