But this zippo seller isn't claiming they are originals, just that they
are the original size and are of "archival quality" (which means nothing
when tossed around by someone like this). So, the seller isn't trying to
fool anyone, just make them sound like they are somehow
better-than-the-usual-repro. Basically, he's not doing anything that
Moviegoods.com and dozens of other repro houses haven't been doing for
many years now. Anyone who buys from this guy thinking they are getting
an original theatrical release of a poster simply isn't paying attention
and so gets what they deserve.
There is a slight potential problem with these kind of things in the
future, when they have aged 20 or 30 years and their owners try to sell
them as "original". Because then they won't look so obviously new and
they do seem to be exact repros as to size and with all of the NSS
eratta printed in the bottom margin. We've had this problem with the
Portal repros of 30 years ago coming on the market as "originals" and
fooling some people so it's not a new issue (but at least Portal repros
usually stated they were printed by Portal at the bottom and the current
generation of repros not longer do that because the studios have lost
all interest in protecting their copyright on older posters). Repros,
even 30-year old repros, being mistaken for originals is just another
reason why movie poster collectors who only want to buy genuine
originals have to educate themselves and physically handle a lot of
genuine posters so they can recognize the "look and feel" of a real
vintage poster. This applies to newbies as well. Either that or only buy
from reputable sellers who have done the work of authenticating the
poster for you.
The one thing I will say for this zippo operation, they do have some
really nice, very large 41"x41" posters made from 6 sheets. At $100 the
price is kinda steep, but one or two of these would make really nice
wall displays (and where are most of us ever gonna get an original 6
sheet for one of these films... and where would we hang an 81"x81"
original anyway?).

can these posters really fool? suppose you are a dealer, and you put
one of these half sheets or inserts (PLUS A LITTLE ADDED CREASES,
SMUDGES, TEARS, ETC.) in a stack of originals......would you be able
to pull off a scam?
i have never seen these REPROS. same paper thickness???????????
