Are you looking for new kinds of movie related items to collect, where prices aren't sky high, and where you don't need to worry if every item is the real deal? Well, you should consider giving some of the items we auction most Sundays a try!
There are four main types: 1) Glass slides: These were the 1920s to 1940s equivalent of "coming attractions". Theaters would project them on the screen between movies to show the audiences what was coming next. Most sell from a few dollars to $20 for "better" titles, with the absolute classics selling for a couple of hundred. We were consigned a pretty incredible collection of thousands of these (one of each) and we auction FIFTY of these most Sundays! 2) Movie Magazines: As soon as movies became really popular in the 1910s, publishers realized there was a strong market for magazines devoted to movies, and in their heyday in the 1920s and 1930s, the best of these sold millions of copies. Each issue is PACKED with articles pictures and really great vintage ads for then-current movies. We have been known to spend an hour or two looking over a single vintage magazine, because so many of the stories can be so fascinating (we great one we recently read was about how 15 year old Jackie Coogan was one of the richest people in Hollywood, but he had no clue how much money he had because his dad had invested it all, and of course we would sadly learn a few years later that his dad had actually blown it all!). We were consigned a pretty incredible collection of many thousands of these (one of each) and we auction FIFTY of these most Sundays! 1) German programs: These were published in Germany from the 1910s to the 1970s, one each for every movie. Many are four pages, and some are more. Most have photographic images or montages not seen on any other advertising! Most sell from a few dollars to $10 for "better" titles, with the absolute classics selling fifty dollars or so. We were consigned a pretty incredible collection of thousands of these (one of each) and we auction FIFTY of these most Sundays! 1) Presskits: As pressbooks were being phased out, movie studios switched to presskits, which each contain some number of vintage stills, plus a cool (often full color) printed folder, plus supplements explaining all about the movie. Most sell from a few dollars to $20 for "better" titles, with the absolute classics selling for fifty dollars or so, and often you can buy the presskit for the same or less than you would expect to pay for just the stills. We were consigned a pretty incredible collection of a thousand or so of these (one of each) and we auction FIFTY of these most Sundays! In addition, *EVERY* Sunday we auction a dozen or more "bulk lots", containing items we can't take the time to auction singly. We know that these always sell for far less than they would sell for if the items in them were sold one at a time, but we can't do that, so if you are dealer looking for inventory, or a collector who appreciates great values, you really need to check these out every Sunday! Just 9 hours to go, and still 64 presskits, glass slides, German programs, & movie mags at $1 each, 94 at $3 each and under and 128 at $5 each and under! Maybe most bidders just don't know how really cool these collectibles are, or how much "bang for the buck" you get with these, but there are lots of real deals, even on the most expensive items (and most of the bulk lots are at $1 to $2 per item, so there is lots of room for dealers to make a tidy profit re-selling them!). **This week, we have one of our very best selection of glass slides ever, with some really wonderful ones from great 1930s titles, including *DARK VICTORY *(with a great image of Better Davis), *DISGRACED* (with an incredible full-length image of sexy Helen Twelvetrees) and *BEAUTY FOR SALE * (great art of sexy showgirls perched on a top hat), and many more!. Our movie mags include some of our best ever, with many great early 1930s Photoplays, plus Hollywood magazine, plus other titles, and many have incredible art by some of the leading illustrators of the day like *McClelland Barclay*! Our bulk lots are *ESPECIALLY* cool this week, and there is spirited bidding on most of them,. but most still represent really great values, some under $1 per item. One of the *COOLEST* ones we have ever had is a special "*Al's Toy Barn*" that was sent to movie reviewers, and it contains all the McDonald's Happy Meal toys from Toy Story II in mint condition, housed in a great plastic "barn"! And if you buy any 15 items you get our 21 in-print $20 full-color movie poster books ($394.99 retail) *FREE! * Don't forget to check out our 215 SUNDAY ITEMS on our website sometime * BEFORE* they end Sunday, August 30th, beginning around 3 PM CST by going to* **http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html*<http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html> Bruce Visit the MoPo Mailing List Web Site at www.filmfan.com ___________________________________________________________________ How to UNSUBSCRIBE from the MoPo Mailing List Send a message addressed to: [email protected] In the BODY of your message type: SIGNOFF MOPO-L The author of this message is solely responsible for its content.
