Any guesses on which will sell for more, and would it have had a
different result 20 years ago?
well clearly the Goldfinger will sell for more today, because there
are more poster collectors looking for it than there looking for
vintage uber-classics like Passion of Joan of Arc, which would have
had people frothing at the mouth 20 years ago when the Goldfinger quad was $600
it's just one more victim of "generational collecting"
There real difference is if you ask 2 groups of people "What are the
100 greatest films of all time" 20 years ago, and then again today
I doubt that more than 1/2 of the older list would make it onto
today's list because of voting age, and because there are so many
people today who both know nothing of the great classics, and who
have no plans to ever see them
to under 40-somethings today (in large part) and particularly under
30-somethings black and white movies are more boring than a garbage can
I imagine that 20 years from now and beyond that, the number of great
classics before 1940 on the list would be token entries only
