Yes, Mendez has been tied to this scandal (and the information does seem to point in his direction), and he, in turn, has filed a countersuit and says he was not involved. Cool heads should prevail and, as others have suggested--no witch hunts should be conducted until the facts are in and proven, one way or the other.

Bruce's newsletters are full of wonderful info and data, but the editorializing on Mendez's involvement and apparent conviction on these charges, are a bit strong at this point. (and I'm not defending Mendez, just the process by which any of us would want to be treated until we all know, FOR SURE).

This excerpt from Bruce's recent newsletter is what caught my eye:

I also can't see how any honest individual can condone continuing to do business with a restorer where so many people state that this was the restorer who created these fakes. Aside from the morality issue, isn't it quite possible the restorer will cheat YOU, and also that at any time the restorer may be arrested and have his posters seized? I also think people need to strongly consider WHO did the restoration when they buy a restored poster, and to think long and hard before buying a poster that was restored by the alleged restorer who created these fakes, because down the line those posters may well prove to be somewhat "tainted".

One needs to consider the fact and ask himself these questions: What if Mendez was, in fact, NOT involved at all? What if the true creator of these fakes is still flying under the radar, unnamed and unnoticed? And, I stress, if Mendez IS guilty.. then so be it.. he should go down (as should any involved in this scam).

Anyhow-- these thoughts crossed my mind and i wanted to share them.

Jeff
