Bruce, Perhaps you are best qualified to answer that question, as the last two times you have sold this poster (which has been several years now) it was for over $14K and then $15K. Were those the results of "push-em ups" or bought by "investors" or perhaps that rarest of animal - collectors? If $18K on this poster doesn't make sense now (and remember it's an asking price, not a "sold for" price), then an actual sale of $15K several years ago makes even less sense.
But if someone is looking to purchase a REAL Creature From The Black Lagoon one-sheet I will point out that Alan Adler just had one listed at $9,999 which seems like a very good price. It was backed by Igor so most likely it will need to be re-restored, but you can be 100% sure it is real and know that you are buying it from a reputable dealer. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bruce Hershenson To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, October 10, 2009 11:13 AM Subject: Re: [MOPO] ANOTHER 'CREATURE' 1-SHEET ON EBAY How did a Creature one-sheet get to be "worth" $18,000 anyway? For the longest time it was $2,500, and many were bought and sold at that level. The same was true at $5,000 and $7,500. Now the "push-em-up" boys have gotten the "value" to $18,000, and it seems like you could buy ten at that price, and I am not clear there are any buyers, other than the "investors" who have no love of it and will be looking to sell it for $30,000 after the "push-em-up" boys take it to THAT level. I see tons of "rooters" who love prices like these (because that pushes up the value of their collections), but I wonder if $18,000 makes sense, in light of the fact that $18,000 buys you a ton of excellent posters, once you get outside the rarified horror world. Since it was apparently in nice condition, somebody might have actually paid 18 K for an UNBACKED poster... Helmut From his story, he's outside the collecting circle. Neat story of provenance too. I obtained a few posters when I was younger simply because I enjoyed them, never really expecting any of them to be or become valuable. I bought the "Creature" poster from a Manitou Springs Colorado antique store in 1977 along with a couple of other 1950's posters that I liked. During most of the intervening time since then they have remained peacefully folded and put away in room temperature storage. You can imagine my surprise when I accidentally discovered that the "Creature" was a valuable rarity. May well be all he says it is, but knowing what we know now, personally, I wouldn't with a barge pole.
