All,

This is pretty frustrating... neither the pictures at Bruce's site or the Poster Mountain site show comparisons with a genuine original. We need to see the magnified detail shots of the fake and the same magnified details shots of an authentic poster presented side by side to really learn how to spot tell the differences.

Also, I am confused by Bruce's description that the CREATURE fake John sent him was created by somehow merging an authentic 1950's poster border with a reproduced image area. Even linen-backed, wouldn't there be some kind of a hair-thin line running all around the poster where the border and the image area meet? In normal restoration of a genuine poster, you might find this almost-microscopic line in a few spots were pieces of missing original border paper were replaced with something else from the same period... but if the *entire* border is replaced, I don't see how that wouldn't be fair easy to identify by touch/magnifying glass examination under very bright light. If I'm wrong and such a line all around the poster between the border and the image would *not* be visible, could some restorer please explain to us how that kind of magic is accomplished?

Hi Bruce,

Big pics of the CFTBL fake, but not big enough to tell:

Is that the same style of fake, same quality of printing as the one of the Poster Mountain database?

(Which I assume is Jim's.)

Cheers,
Richard
