Hey Guys,
I know Bill Scutta. He is a nice young guy that is new to our hobby. In
fact, I told him about the MoPo group and what a good forum it was for
information that would allow him to learn more about the hobby from longtime
collectors and dealers and to locate material for his collection. So, with that
in mind, I'm sure he truly is just trying to give the heads up. I don't know
that I would have mentioned the forum either if I were new to the hobby and
didn't want to get anyone mad at me! I would be pretty freaked out if all of
sudden someone was using my name as their "handle" on a forum saying things
that might be inflammatory or just plain rude. I don't think Bill has been in
the hobby long enough to have a previous history.
So, I say all this so that you all might cut this guy some slack. I think
he was trying to do the right thing and also protect himself. Remember, while
many say things to each other with the security of anonymity of the internet,
we're all just people. I recommend this forum to my customers as I believe it
to be a positive force in our hobby. I don't want to scare the guy off.

Bill,
Not that I want to be earth-shakingly hostile or anything, but why didn't you
name the forum in your first post in the first place? If the purpose of your
post was to let people know that anything posted by this "other" Bill Scutta
was not really you, then telling us what forum the was happening on would
*further* that goal, don't you think? Now you say you don't want to name the
forum because of the responses you got here on MOPO? That makes no sense.
As for your statement that you don't use Bill Scutta as your screen name...
maybe not on forums, but your full name shows up here on all the MOPO messages
as being mail from "bill scutta <[email protected]>", so that is effectively
your "screen name" here on MOPO.
Naturally I agree with you that it is quite rude and in poor taste (even if it
was supposed to be a joke) for someone else to use your name -- but since a
screen name is supposed to be a made-up "handle" for people on forums to use
instead of their real names, there are no rules against it that I'm aware of.
Traditionally people have been free to choose whatever screen name they want...
Homer Simpson... James Bond... whatever.
There are no real safeguards or other provisions to prevent this sort of thing
on the internet. I could register on FaceBook as "Bill Scutta", for instance. I
could set up an email account as "[email protected]". All one can
do when one sees this stuff is alert other people that it is not you, such as
you did here.
Which brings us back to needing to know which forum it is happening on so we
can know that, on that forum at least, it is not you.

No, it was most definitely NOT Movie Poster Forum. In light of the posts that
I have received over this topic, I'm not going to post what forum it is. Those
who I've talked to privately already know.
Best always,
Bill

Good luck with this Bill.
Might be worth mentioning which forum it is.
I'd like to confirm that it is not The Movie Poster Forum.
I have made sure nobody can register your name on the movie poster forum, If
anyone else would like the same, please let me know and I will protect your
name to be safe.
Kind Regards
Andy
