Hello Folks.... ....about Grey Smith I just had a great experiance to
share
and Heritage... I had some stills and Grey expressed interest.. Ive had
these for years and like many things, Ive
been slow to list them However I sell some on ebay and collectors as
Ive been in business since 1977.
As we have learned this year many people can make mistakes in judgement
and listings and auctions.. So the
question is how do we deal with is Honestly.. I took a overview photo
of stills I had as I bought a collection
from a actor.s wife that was offered to me Via the Academy I think 80s.
he lot was stills used by the Hollywood wax museum as referance and has
Original Hurrells and Bulls and
thers.. some are 11 x 14... Well I took a overview photo shot when
Grey asked about a specific still... a Dracula from spanish 1931 movie.
the Spanish 1931 Dracula.... It is like a art illistartionpicture 8 x
10 still.... and he asked what would you like for it..
Now I told him.. I was Not 100% certain it was original or a
re-strike,, and asked him well whats it worth..?
He said 500 or more. if original. so I said give me 1/2 that and its
yours,,,,, so I promptly sent it to Grey priority and when he
received it he emailed me that Bruce Cateronton thought it may be a
re-strike in his opinion... So I told Grey
Ok well if its not otiginal Keep it as a gift... as I couldn't be sure
absolutly although all the stills in the Lot seemed from 30s but it
wasnt worth have a mis-described item
... So then to my astonishment Grey said well Tom Ill do this.. send
you the 250 and whenI sell it if it brings more Ill split the overage
50/50... and do this Tom send me
some other stuff and we can split it 50/50. in future......So we aggreee
that he could keep it and when he listed he would describe the fact we
couldnt 100% know what vintage it was from... To me it looked l good.
However I could not promice 100% certainty... The Hurrels and Bulls are
blind embossed and stampted and Im 100% sure they are the real
thing...But I would never intentionally try to pass off anything..
However I could make a mistake.... the problem is on many of the items
we discus on Mope there are wide gaps of info..so
it seems to cause all confusion. I know many of my items because Ive had
them over 30 years and got the
poester from theatres etc.. so I know the source.
So my point what impressed me is that Grey Smith of Heritage was a
gentleman and was trying to do good business and he fed exd me a
cashiers check overnight.. He also placed several Phone calls to me and
was very polite
and also very down to earth... The reason why they may take two weeks to
deliver is they have a volume selling business and are very focused on
the packing and processing. Ive never bought anything so I have no
opinion on the processing. However Grey has been very prompt with me. So
so far my experiance with Heritage is Good.Hope that helps..
There I guess is always the possibility we can all get duped ... Heck
the funnist part was I am not very educated to Horror ( or anything-
ha:) .. so I said- Grey the guy in this Photo does NOT look like Bela.to
me...and I thought it was a mexican re-release of Dracula.... so My
friend a college film buff said nooo they filmed it at same time and
used same sets.. and all this.. so I didnt even know what the heck it
was..-- surprised??.
so I told Grey you should have it as You know about it and I dont... If
its rare I felt Grey would be honest and tell me// simply because hes a
Gentleman. and seems to understand integrity.......and so are many
people on the list.. liek Sue , Bruce, Rich and other dealrs...... Heck
I understand the temptation to sell stuff and make money..
when I foundd the Oscar and could have easy got 15K from people offering
cash... I was sooo tempted because I was fresh divorced and it was one
my best items to sell.../// But when I asked my son well..?? he said
Dad you try to protect your ideas they just want to protect thiers,,, so
The message I left to my son was that NOT to do that.. and I was able
to get a few $ and return to academy they bought it from me.
But make mistakes...?? man I could write a Book on how to bungle
Life/// Marriage, friendships , Business, health..
You name it... So to those that have been hurt , or made mistakes... I
say.... dont let those that call names and
question your integrity bother you .. as we are all one step away from
failure or health issues, divorce, bankrupsy
or someon smashing into us... For those that are mean or ripoffs ,, you
notice it doesnt work... it will always
fall apart.. just look!!! Ive spoken to Banks and they are scared
silliy.... yet there is a awareness of what we need to do... and it is
as old as anything.. its basically to help each other....... be friends
and steer peopel to good
positive busines.and life choices... If we mis-inform each other we
undermine our kids future , our marriage and the people we should be
serving....our customers...
No... before you say what the hell do you know you are barely alive and
not successful...... Just last week I was lambasting Lucasfilm for the
touring London Phillharmonic show.. when several Mopo peopel emailed me
OFFlist and made some good points,,, as I reflected I saw that Lucas
Lost so much more then I did and so
I saw I was self centered.. and didnt see all sides.. I think thats the
answer here on MOPO ,, to look at all sides..
because the court systems are made so people have some civilized
opportunity to explain facts and not be
convicted by the media or outsiders.before they can present a
defence.... Because we all can be subjected to the same speculation and
that
can hurt many businesses and familys... Even if you have the facts and
they are true.. I only suggest that
we Forgive people and allow thenm some redemption otherwise there will
never be one that is impervious to scandal......
If we did things to network and help each other that would be productive
and mend many raw nerves.
I am not aware of who the players are in the lawsuits and I like eveyone
on Mopo and Rich , Bruce and Jr
I find humorous and seem to be fair in business...
As For the linenbackers... there seems to be a deep concern
about that crafts ethics.. and I suggest we just wish the best for all
these people on all sides to find peace and a quick solution that will
not harm careers and business or private parties.. I feel sorry for
them all.
Perhaps they could form a ethics mission staement policy to abide by on
restoration methods.
Lawsuits pit everyone against each other and in these hard times we need
to focus on building business and friendships instead of destroying
them. wish all best.
