I hate to be a downer but Kevin McCarthy was at an autograph show in
Hollywood and I asked him to sign one of my lobby cards from this
set. He most definitely has Altzheimer's and could barely focus on

In 30 years colelcting vintage Hollywood autographs I have NEVER
seen her sign "Dorothy". About 7-8 years ago there was a forger
(pretty skilled) on eBay selling autographed OZ books. He would pick
up the old Oz books and trace the signatures from an authentic Oz
book sold by R&R in 2000 for $47,000. But the forger would go a
step further and add "Dorothy". If you were ware of the Genuine Oz
signed book you could compare and see he was using it as a
reference. I even saw an experienced dealer sellign the set of OZ
forged autogroahs on eBay where the forger even traced the same
Inscriptions from the R&R book. So, outof the maybe couple
thousand Judy Garland autographs I have seen or owned I have NEVER
seen her use "Dorothy". But, in addition if you are familar with
her handwriting this reproduction Oz poster was NOT even close to
her handwriting.

Am I being dense in thinking that if Judy Garland had autographed
the poster that she would have signed it "Judy" and not "Dorothy"? Duh...
Also the border of this "original poster" was conveniently trimmed
to cut off any identifying markings of the company that reproduced it.
I might accept that it is barely possible there is someone with over
500 feedbacks stupid enough to fall for this and buy it for $589
(from a seller with 7 feedbacks no less), but I'm not willing to
believe there are *two* such people and that they both saw and both
bid on this same auction. It's 99% certain both top bidders are shills.
Although eBay does not provide enough information in the
jokingly-named "bid history" these days to tell anything about a
bidder, the supposed winning bidder has only bid on 2 posters in the
past 30 days -- this and one other. The guy he outbid (whose maximum
was $579) only bid on 1 poster in the past 30 days -- this one.
There are some people who set up "shill bidder" accounts 5 or even
10 years ago on eBay and have been building up the feedback of those
shill bidding accounts so they look "real". And they don't
necessarily have an exclusive connection with a particular seller.
There are some sell shill bidder services clandestinely. They will
bid on your items up to the amount you tell them to, with the
agreement that if they happen to win, they don't pay for the item
but you tell eBay they have and you leave each other positive feedback.
