Hi Mopo - its funny as when I reflect on the stories Ive heard and
experianced myself
its like they sound like Fish stories.... seriously when I found a
oscar in a storefront window I was
eating a Mcdonalds Filet of fish sandwich.. looked over and saw it
gleeming in the window.... The man
told me it had been there 20 years and No one ever asked,,, there was no
alarm.. and after I came in he took
it out of the window... as I drove past in awe.... Point is.. never
underestimate anything...
I carry a attitude the same as some do.. that think It will never
happen.... I think.. anything can and does happen..
the Glass is 1/2 full..... and yes some things turn out false or bad...
But then we also get experiance and learn
and new doors are opened.
I have found posters and had them brought to me from the strangest
places,, back in the 20s and 30s 40 and 50s
paper was a cheap source of insulation... so thats where most ended up
that are found today... I had a man
that found them as Floor underlayment.. a set of Phantom of the opera -
Claude rains..
abd this other guy had Rolled twentys posters including Pigs curly tail
by walter Lantz.... and there where
the ones that were in wiscosin that where in walls... window cards.... I
had about 20 and they were great includeing the terrr 1928 that Borst
bought from me and gave to Forrey Acherman...
Also I found warehouse of pristine cases of Toys.. and a Home that had
Sat eveng Posts like 400 covering a attic.. Like new...
Then in 1980 The day reagan was shot.... I found a old bookstore in
Toledo that was going out of business..
I saw some old line postcards on counter and said do you have more?? he
wanted 35 cents each.... he takes me
in back room and says sonny how many you want... there was 100 boxes
each containing 1000 postcards of
all kinds of Toledo scenes and comic art cards... 100,000 units.......
It was sp heavy My rear van tire blew out
from the weight....and as I was waiting for tow truck the radio annouced
reagan was shot then my battery went dead.. TRUE story..
OK... Basically the entire history of my business is based on believing
in Dreams that all things could happen
sometimes whenI go hunting for stuff.. I find nothing.... othere times
I hit treasures.. My logic is If you look
in all the exspected places.. so does everyone else... its when you
least ecsepect it that it useually happens.
You just need to be open minded and not greedy and its liek Gifts ....I
always say about liek a gragae sale..
I am only looking for One item,,, not a whole sale of stuff... a woman
may have a lot of baby clothes but also
One poster her Granpa or uncle left that noone cares what happens to it
or they have no interest in or just want to find a home...
Thats why you hear stories.... sometimes the stuff gets packed up moved
around , lost and then the person Dies..
They Found in Toledo Grammy s awrds from Stevie wonder in a storage sale
that was sold at auction because
someone didnt pay the rent... True and happened......
So with the Portals true most of these I found in such and such are
deceptive lies meant to decieve,,,, But they
are just trying to emulate the real facts. that did happen...... as I
have bought from Old projectionists, did find
stuff in Odd places and have uncovered Oscar and other great
collectables in the strangest of places and conditions.. so it can
happen and has for 30 years..
A man in Hollywood I know that owns a camera shop was at a recent
auction out there,,, and he bought a Room lot for 300.00 Of what looked
liek as Junk.. in there were Two bell and howell 2709 movie cameras in
great shape.. that sell typinically for 1000-5000 each.. and here it was
in plain sight of anyone..
It can happen... Its just doesnt always appear possible because many
people have blinders on and can Not IMagine the possibilities... thats
all thats holding people back.. Or they try and dont get Immediate results
as they are impatient... so they give up..
If you keep looking eventually you will find something.......
people sell collections or give them away... or throw stuff out...
