eBay started a "customer appreciation" deal a few months ago, where EVERY seller gets the first five auction listing with no listing fees whatsoever! And they give you that same deal every single month! Wow! Now you know why you see the same crappy "million dollar" listings over and over and over, because they don't cost the "sellers" anything, since they of course never sell. And of course it lets eBay have some "high dollar" items, because without giving the listings free it is hard to imagine who would list a high dollar item on eBay.
But there is a "catch" which results in sellers getting royally screwed, and eBay making fortunes. You have to pay 8.75% on those free listings instead of the regular "tiered" rate, with a cap of $25 per item, AND THEY FORCE YOU INTO THIS DEAL WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT, on the first five auction items each month. So every day, lots of sellers list expensive auction items as their first five items of the month and only first learn they are paying a whopping 8.75% when they get their bill. One more great way eBay enriches itself by taking advantage of its sellers. He will chalk it up to experience and lose $10 or so, as will millions of other sellers. And eBay will keep circling the drain.
