I am more jealous of the person who gets to own these cool posters than of the people who sell them. The problem with really cool posters is that they ALWAYS sell for way too much!
Many, many times over the years I have had people look at some great poster in one of my auctions and say, "Too bad that is $10,000 now. I could have bought that 20 years ago when it was $1,000", and I always reply, "No, because 20 years ago you would have been saying, "Too bad that is $1,000 now. I could have bought that "x" number of years ago when it was $100". The people who get the best items (and the best collections) "step up" and pay too much (sometimes way too much) to get the very best items. Sometimes they pay so much that 20 years later the item is still not worth what they paid 20 years before. But sometimes (as when Borst paid $1,000 for a Frankenstein one-sheet from Larry Edmund's) 20 years later the item is worth many many times what they paid. I wonder if the "Bueller" will sell for hundreds of thousands 20 years for now, or if it will sell for more than $1,100? In 2030, you younger collectors will find out the answer, and please remember me when you do!
