Goodness, I've been so swamped lately that I missed this very sad news. I thought she was marvellous - simply, marvellous.

He had so many nice things to say about Jean Simmons and I imagined "why not". You just couldn't take your eyes off of her when she was on the screen. I remember seeing her for the first time in Young Bess when I was little watching old movies on the Saturday matinee. I remember then thinking how beautiful she was and her voice was so soft and pure. She was a strong force in everything she did. She did a film with Rock Hudson called "This Earth is Mine", one of my favorites of her "little films". I also loved her in the TV saga Thorn Birds. Even in her mid- 50's, she was still beautiful. She was indeed a class act. I was so lucky to have met her several years ago at a screening of Howl's Moving Castle. She was lively, lovely and so kind. I gushed and she was thrilled about how much I knew about her.
