Hi Guys & Girls, Being a small collector, I am intrigued with this discussion.
I collect Western lobby cards....I am now limited to the TCs....There is a seller on ebay...Arizona-Ames is his ebay name that sells (and advertises them) reproductions of valuable western lobbies. They reproduce them with 11x14 dimensions and sells them for $10 or so. I think they either buy the originals and make copies of them (and later sell the originals under a different ebay name (6-gun-rhythm)or make photocopies from someone else's posting. Who knows? They sell western TCs from the 30's & 40s starring many of the favorite stars including Tim McCoy, Ken Maynard, Buck Jones and many other stars. Yes they advertise them as repos, but they are produced with the same dimensions as the originals and what if someone buys them and later knowingly or unknowingly sells them as an original. Obviously, there is no one around to sue them but they are really doing the hobby a disservice...in my mind they fall into the same category as MovieGoods too! Basically, why would they reproduce them with the same size (11x14) as the original....Can anything be done to stop them from doing this? Just asking.... PS if anyone has any western TCs from the 30s that they would like to part with, I would give them a good home, please let me know. That said, I 've heard that Moviegoods is a sleazy operation. They make illegal reproduction of ANY poster they find on the internet in high resolution. They have NO ANY rights for doing these reprints. They don't own copyrights for making reprints. And they make money from STOLEN copyrights. All published material, all posters ARE COPYRIGHTED UNLESS COPYRIGHT OWNER WRITES THAT HE MAKES THE PUBLISHED ITEM A PUBLIC DOMAIN. So whatever you write here on MOPO about copyrights has nothing to do with actual law. You can't make reproductions of any printed material without written permission from copyright owner. It is not just about logos, characters, or any individual part of poster. EACH poster is individual piece of work that is copyrighted and work of an individual. Copyright is owned by author or by company which employed the author. There are specific differences in some cases depending if the author was just hired to the work of he is an employee of the company. But those details are not important for us. I personally don't like any thieves who make their whole business based on the work of others. I forced ebay few times to remove their reprints OF MY POSTER (poster which I won copyrights for) but this is simply fool game as they relist these auctions few days later. I even got email from moviethieves telling me that they have permission from copyright owner.... best, Krzysztof Marcinkiewicz Polish Posters Shop http://www.polishposter.com [email protected] [email protected] Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 11:19:12 PM, you wrote: > Could someone tell me why this board sems to be gunning for Movie > Goods?
