Gene Autry
Republic Pictures
THE SINGING COWBOY
Original 1936 Release
One Sheet Poster
27 x 41 Inches

Up for auction is one of the most rare and desired of the Gene Autry
one-sheets - an Original One-Sheet Poster from the Original 1936 Release of
Gene
Autry's Republic Picture, The Singing Cowboy, starring Gene Autry, Smiley
Burnette and Lois Wilde. The picture was the first Autry film directed by
Mack V. Wright. Take a look at the gorgeous litho image of Autry singing
with his guitar in hand, action swirling around him. This "singing cowboy"
image best represents who Gene Autry really was, which makes this title,
The Singing Cowboy, the standard bearer for Gene Autry posters. It is almost
quite RARE. I've never seen this poster on auction before. A search on
Google and through the archives of Heritage Auctions doesn't show a
one-sheet for this film that has ever been up for sale. Perhaps there has
been
but, if so, it's most likely been many years since its last offering.
The poster is in Very Good Condition and would best be served with linen
backing. There are some small slightly larger than pencil eraser size holes
on top and right sides of poster within the picture (some have paper
simply folded back), a bit of border missing bottom right, a gouge on the left
bottom, horizontal seam separations on each of the three horizontal center
seams (only center seam has small bit of paper missing, and less than pic
shows as some is folded back), and a number written on yellow background just
to the left of Gene's hat (looks like pencil, so can probably be removed).
Poster, which is over 70 years old, retains bright color and has borders
that are still relatively clean for its age. Please take a look at the pic
to get a good idea of condition and incredible presentation value.
