Hi, Bruce,

I just got in a tri-folded Style C Star Wars one sheet. Of course, I
was a bit apprehensive about doing a deal with a guy since there are so many
fakes out there. I actually have 20 or 30 of the rolled fakes--so I laid
the tri-folded one sheet next to the fake and right away it became evident
that ib certain areas of the poster, the colors were much brighter on the
tri-folded one sheet--and it also didn't have the dreamed "hair" on Princess
Leia's back. I have another Style C (not tri-folded) put away in the
"bowels" of my collection. When I first got in the rolled bogus one sheets, I
remember doing the same comparison with identical results. I've had my
other Star Wars Style C one sheet for over 20 years. I honestly think that
it's a legitimate style released in 1977--it just appears as if far fewer were
printed at that time.
I remember years ago--maybe 20 or 25---that people in the hobby who knew
their Star Wars material used to say that the Style C was the rarest +
most valuable. (It's really a shame that their are so many rolled bogus Style
C's out there, because in a way it seems to diminish the rarity and value of
the REAL Style C's--maybe just a subconscious psychological thing). With
all of the Style A's and Style D's out there, it just seems as if the
Style C should be viewed as a truly rare piece...more so than I think it is. I
wish I still had my Star Wars pressbook to see if the Style C is featured
in it. Do you know if it is? Maybe you or another MoPo member can shed some
more light on this. One more thing...about 5 years ago, I did a trade with
an old-time collector from the Berkeley area whom we both know where I got
a tri-folded Star Wars Style C one sheet in the trade. I must have sold
it or traded it to someone else because I don't have it anymore. I had no
doubt of its authenticity just as I have no doubts about the authenticity of
the tri-folded Style C one sheet I just got in.
I just think there is a certain mystery about this style Star Wars one
sheet and I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed at greater length among
members of MoPo or collectors in general. Sad to say, I think the presence of
all these rolled pieces of garbage have affected attitudes greatly and has
taken the luster off what might be the 2nd rarest Star Wars poster there is
(the first, of course, being the Birthday Cake one sheet).
                                   Rick

Rick, I have wondered the same thing. I have talked to many poster
collectors who were collecting when the movie first came out, and they say
that
this poster did not appear on the collector's market at all in 1977, and that
a year or two later a ton of them appeared (the ones that are rolled or
lightly hand folded).

Some people I have talked to wonder if these aren't the result of someone
getting the printer to run off a bunch of these at a later date. We know
there WAS such a poster in 1977 with ratings (because printer's proofs have
turned up), and it is also possible that the "no ratings" posters were from
an international release in 1978.

Can any expert show an image of any theater anywhere that displayed this
poster in 1977? Or can any expert who was collecting back then tell that
they purchased one or more of these in 1977, and not at a later date?

Hi,

I'm not that tremendously knowledgable when it comes to STAR WARS
material, but of the posters from the three original films in the Star Wars
"trilogy", it appears hands down as if the 1977 Star Wars Style C one sheet is
the most difficult to find...definitely more so than the style D and even
more so than Revenge Of The Jedi. (Of course the 'birthday cake" one sheet
tops them all, but I'd put that in a different category altogether)
Anyway, I was searching the results of Heritage's auctions and there must
be 8 or 10 Star Wars Style D one sheets for every ONE style Star Wars Style
C (if that many!). Hey, I know there's a ton of rolled, repro Style C one
sheets out there--but those also DON'T COUNT. I'm talking about original,
authentic Star Wars Style C one sheets. Could some expert on Star Wars
material out there let me know the story on this poster? It's rarity in
relation to other Star Wars posters, etc. Hey, I've seen a helluva lot of
those
BOGUS Style C's over the past 10 years, but unlike the Star Wars Style A
and Style D, there NEVER seems to be a genuine Style C listed on
eBay---unless, of course, it's in an eBay store for $1995 or $3995...or an
even higher
price.
Can some Star Wars expert out there tell me the approximate ratio of
Star Wars Style C one sheets out there compared to Styles A and D...and what
value they put on each...
                                         Thanks very much in advance,
                                                         Rick
