I think this is actually an unfair criticism as I have no doubt that
more than 50% of all poster collectibles are worth less than $14 and
we all know that no consignor only submits $500 posters for auction.
also, there are people who don't buy $25+ posters that much for their
own reasons, so the low priced posters are what keeps a broad variety
of bidders involved
however, as a consignor or seller should know, the fleaBay vs Bruce
or vs MPB comparison on such low value items is obvious.
if you sell 100 items for $14 on fleaBay each week and you own your
merch, you're making a reasonable living - not a great one
if you're selling 100 items from $1 to $14 each every week.. You
aren't doing well at all, so both Bruce and I offer a service in that
arena as you won't be working (we will) and your results would be
about the same as you doing the work on fleaBay if you consigned that
batch to me and clearly less well if Bruce sells them because of his
commission rate, so I think that either of us is a better deal than
selling those cheapies yourself as an overall example (after you take
out fees, time & effort)
don't get me wrong though.. if you send me 100 items and they are
only $14 and less, we're both wasting our time
but in the context of a balanced consignment, that area of your sale
$14 and less is the same as money from nothing
that said.. it is a better deal based on consignment fees to send me
your posters...... at least I think so
