Well, since I've already been accused of "knocking" AVATAR when I was actually one of the first to post a rave review about it -- as well as not having "really thought about it" when I wished aloud that its predictable script and cardboard villains had not been quite so predicate or quite so cardboard -- I must hesitate to voice my personal opinion of the AVATAR poster.

Aw... who am I kidding?

There is no question that it is artistically well done and certainly works as an icon for the film and serves well to draw people who might not know anything about the film into the theater. Everything a poster is supposed to do -- particulary an advance poster. If I was a seller, I'd probably stock up on them, particularly the advance versions, but probably not at the current gotta-have-it-now bidding-frenzy high prices. I'd wait for the studio to keep on printing more and more of them to meet the demand so that eventually the price goes to $19.95 or less. As a seller looking for future pricing power, I would also hope that the studio could eventually stop moviegoods.com from selling full-size double-sided versions of it for $29.95:

But for me personally... note that I said personally... "rare" or not... well, I would not even want that big blue face with the huge yellow eye staring down at me from my wall all day long, so I'll take a pass on this or any other AVATAR poster with this image on it.

I prefer this style:

or even this one (even tho it still has the staring yellow eye problem):

Now, do I actually need to type out the politically-correct disclaimer that the above is only my ever-humble opinion and fully realize other people may well find this version of the poster to be just peachy and the "Best Poster of the Year"?

Hello folks,
The response to this post on MoPo was overwhelming so we have placed the poster on eBay for a three day auction so everyone can have a fair chance to bid on it. Bidding starts at a very reasonable $29.99 Does anyone dare to hit the buy-it-now button? ;-) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130367851665 <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130367851665>
All the best,
Ron
