Um... nope. I just went and measured my so-called 52" inch TV (where the actual screen size measures 51 inches diagonally) and if I were to turn it on its side, it would only measures 25 inches of display area left-to-right. So, to display a 27x41 inch movie poster at full size... including the borders... one would need a 56 inch screen (measured diagonally).

This seems weird because a 27x41 one sheet measures only 49 inches diagonally (including the borders), but the difference in aspect ratios between a one sheet and a 16:9 screen throws things off. A 27x41 one sheet's aspect ratio falls almost exactly between that of the old 4:3 screen and the new 16:9 wide screen formats. But if you want to forget about showing the borders, then I think a 51" diagonal screen will do the trick.

Old Fogey Creeb: calling the new wide screen format 16:9 was actually just PR bullshit. Logically, it should have been named as a step up from the old 4:3 screen ratio and called 5.333:3 -- multiply that by 3 and you get 16:9. Heck why didn't they go for the really high-def hype, multiply it by 6 and call it 32:18? Why stop at a measly 16:9?

Hi Carol,
If my calculations are correct a 46 inch 16:9 widescreen should be able to display one sheets in their original size.

    Hello Ron,

I think this is an outstanding idea! I happen to be awake during
the wee hours of the morning Texas time searching the web for an
HDTV with various input options. Your idea could result in an
enjoyable ongoing project. Movie music or trailers could be added,
etc. I won't be surprised if several MOPO members pounce on this
idea. We could easily become like kids with collector cards --
I'll swap you this image for that image.

    I love your idea!

    Carol

P.S. I haven't done the math. Are you buying a 16:9 widescreen or
    a 4:3 screen?

A while ago I came up with the following idea and I'm
wondering what some of you think about it.

I'm saving up to buy one of those LED lightboxes to showcase
posters from my collection. But over here they are well over 300
Euros without shipping and I'm only able to show one poster at a
time. With the prices of LCD TVs dropping I recently came across a
46 inch HD ready TV with USB connection and was thinking of using
that instead of the lightbox. The TV is also just over 300 Euros
and when I plug in an USB drive/stick with hundreds of high
resolution images in slideshow mode I believe this should work
just fine. When hung vertically of course.
