both DWW & Crash are fine films.. did either one deserve Best Picture Oscars??
well, my answer to that is that there are many films that won that
award that I feel are off base
Avatar & Hurt Locker for instance.. I thought Hurt Locker was a
decent film, but nothing special and I didn't feel the story was
strong enough for Avatar to even be nominated, which is probably why
it only won awards for tech. I didn't see any of the other films, so
I don't know which I would have voted for
but I'll go further.. Of Human Bondage.. have you ever seen that
film??? Bette Davis was a "write-in" nomination.. were those folks,
drunk?? I think it's a god awful movie and her acting with that phony
cockney accent was horrendous
how about the Best Music award for Three 6 Mafia doing It's Hard Out

that was the worst award I have ever seen. Some folks may like that
kind of music.. I think it's junk, and not in the way my parents
though Hendrix was junk. How did that song beat out Annie Lennox for
Into the West??
the answer is simple.... the awards are not entirely accomplishment
based. They are frequently an emotional response by the members of
the Academy who are unable to compartmentalize their emotions from
their intellect, and so you get results that are not necessarily in
line with truly award-caliber films.
