Oh, I totally agree with you Rick. The price he has is ridiculous and removing it from the mounting board and linenbacking it wouldn't be cost effective in this case. I was just making the mention as many people out there have posters mounted on something and think they are worthless at that point. That isn't the case in a valuable poster that you might have owned for a long time. For instance, I recently had a client with an original Rear Window one sheet. He bought it in the 70's for about $100 and had it mounted and framed. I had it removed from the mounting board and linenbacked. The poster was in great shape to begin with. The customer had just had it mounted as that was what the framer recommended to him to make the fold lines lay flat. Of course, the mounting board was not acid free, so some browning had occured over time, but that would be the same if he had just framed it, not mounted, and the board behind it wasn't acid free. So...........

To: [email protected] CC: [email protected] Hi, Sue, Sure, it can be restored, but that costs $200 to $250 and as a result is you have a lesser-valued restored linen-backed poster. That alone would bring the value of this particular Revenge Of The Jedi down to the $250 to $300 range as-is, I would think---if the seller's lucky. Otherwise some poor sap's gonna pay top dollar for it and be in for a surprise when he (or she) realizes the error they've made. Rick In a message dated 3/20/2010 8:46:10 A.M. Drymounting can be reversed fairly easily by a linenbacker/restorer. I have it done all the time. Drymounting or some type of mounting was fairly common years ago. So was trimming the poster to 27x40 to fit a stock frame kit. That 1" difference can be restored also. To: [email protected] Hey, for any prospective buyers, I'm not even certain the poster is mounted to foam core---the situation could be worse. I just assumed it was foam core because that's what was primarily used back in 1982 for "preservation". Rick In a message dated 3/20/2010 7:24:48 A.M. What a waste and what an outrageous price. --- On Sat, 3/20/10, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [MOPO] REVENGE OF THE JEDI Orig FAN CLUB US 1-SHEET on eBAY DRY MOUNTED ON FOAM CORE To: [email protected] Date: Saturday, March 20, 2010, 9:29 AM This is most likely the real deal, but the poster has been DRY MOUNTED TO FOAM CORE. For those who haven't been in the hobby that long, the process of DRY MOUNTING a movie poster was considered a good thing by many 25 or 30 years ago. IT ISN'T. Where the value of the poster is concerned, it must be carefully REMOVED from the foam core by a competent restorer and then linen-backed (a process which costs at least $200). The only positive thing about a poster being DRY MOUNTED is that generally the poster remains in remarkably good condition over the 25 or 30 years of its being adhered to foam core. The only problem is GETTING IT OFF! I sent a message to the seller with the Revenge Of The Jedi one sheet and he basically said it was "all Greek" to him. I think the fact that the poster is DRY MOUNTED should be more prominent in his description, but, hey, who's gonna spend twelve hundred bucks for a REVENGE OF THE JEDI one sheet these days anyway, right?
