I saw CLASH, last night in 3D, at the director's guild here in los
angeles. after all the commentary posted on MOPO, i was expecting a
real mess of a film. i have to say, for what it was, i was pleasantly
surprised. i liked the score, the photography and many of the
locations were truly amazing--the Canary Islands, Ethiopia, etc.
The CG work for the Kraken, the Harpies and even some of Hades' FX
were better than i expected. Would have liked to have seen more of
the Kraken.. mostly was its tail, as it devastated Argos.
Acting was par.. and some of the 3D worked well, in my opinion.
converted or not. from the credits, some things were shot in 3d--the
CG work, for example.
But I found the pacing and action pretty spot on. I wasnt bored. And
I liked the scene, before they are leaving to find the Witches, in
which Perseus, in selecting his armour, etc, comes across the golden,
mechanical owl, amongst the piles of swords, shields etc, (the prop/
character from the 1981 original). He picks it up, asks what it is,
and is told by another soldier, not to take it.
hose bits of nostalgia and harkening back, i personally enjoy.
All in all, again, for what it was.. i found it an OK and enjoyable
bit of fun.

Yep,
It was the industry's rush to cheaply capitalize on the last 3D
market that killed it -- they put out all kinds of really bad films
that took little or no advantage of the 3D effect and then
advertised them as the Ultimate 3D Experience. Theater goers get
burned on a couple of those and the fad dies out.
I'm hoping the film distribution business (and the theater
ownership business) is in such precarious shape right now that they
will pressure the rest of the industry to come up with real quality
3D content. If most of the new 3D films released are worth it, this
will keep the public coming into the theaters for another 10 years
or so until quality home 3D technology becomes affordable to the
low-budget consumer. If not, we're going to start seeing cineplexes
closing in droves, since most newly-released films are now
available on disc or online in 60 days of less from release now,
there's precious little reason for most people to schlep down to
the theater anymore.
The last film I bothered to go to a first-run theater in the past
two years was to see AVATAR -- and only because it was 3D. And I
used to go to the theater at least once a week 6 years ago.

I saw Clash of the Titans last night because my eldest son wanted
to, and the movie itself blows (no big surprise there) but the 3D
also blows. I could have been wearing some "X-Ray Specs" for all
the difference the supposed 3D made. I took off the glasses on and
off (I was really bored) and there was next to no difference
watching with them or without them.
3-D should have many images that come off the screen and at the
viewer, and this movie had zero such scenes. They better quit this
conversion crap in a hurry, or 3D won't last as long as it did in
1953 and 1954.
