As I recall Channing, it was nearer to the late 90's. I remember talking to one of the parties involved in those days and he told me he and a couple of partners had just acquired 3000 inserts from National Screen Service in Cincinatti. I had him send me one of each and they were the minty whites that I knew were "wrong" the minute I took them out of the tube. They simultaneously began appearing on Ebay, seemingly a never ending supply.
