So I turned on the car radio and there was one of those annoying lists
from Fandango.com ("the #1 moviegoer destination"!), and this one was
the top 10 movie taglines of the past 10 years.
They were all pretty lousy, but the last couple were from Gran Torino
("Get off my lawn") and the #1 was from Juno ("I mean, I'm already
pregnant, so what other kind of shenanigans could I get into").
Now I happened to see both those movies and thought they were pretty
good by 2000s standards, but are those really the very best taglines
of the past ten years?
And if they are, then doesn't that reinforce what I have been thinking
for quite some time, which is that the reason I think most modern
movies are pretty crappy is not that they are poorly acted or
directed, but that the writing is really dreadful?
Or I am just an old fogey, thinking everything older is better?
