Solved! I think...

Here's what I did:

I copied the only online image I could find of the R56 1-sheet from Bruce's
image archive. He sold one in 2007.

Using Photoshop, I cropped the image right to the borders. Then, with
"Constrain Proportions" ticked in Image Size, I adjusted the width to 27".
Constrain Proportions automatically adjusted the length of Bruce's image to
38.8". Thus the 1-sheet that Bruce sold three years ago was approximately
27"x38.8".

Even allowing for any slight distortion in the photo and/or the online image, I
think this is close enough to indicate that the original R56 1-sheet issued by
Disney was indeed 27x39.

Here's a couple of pics, if that helps. One's a full shot of the poster, the
other a detail of the info in the bottom right corner.

Subject: [MOPO] Need help: Song of the South R56 1-sheet

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one: I just picked up
what is supposed to be a Song of the South R1956 1-sheet.

Almost everything about it is correct: the art , 56/77 NSS number (no "R"
in front of the number, though), Buena Vista logo, machine folded.

Two curious things about it: First, it is printed on glossy stock. Was
Disney ever known to print 1-sheets on glossy stock in the 50s? Second, it
measures 27x39 and doesn't appear to be trimmed.

Is it possible there was a repro issued of this poster in the 70s or 80s
and that's what I have? If so, I can't find anything that matches it online.

Anyway, if anyone could help me out with this, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Dave
