I've done some research on Michael's question. From what I can tell, the movie was originally released on 1/20/1950 as DEADLY IS THE FEMALE (NSS #50-16). It was re-released on 8/24/1950 as GUN CRAZY (NSS #277). United Artists was the releasing company on both of these. An interesting footnote is that the Screenplay was by Dalton Trumbo (SPARTACUS) but it was credited to Millard Kaufman, who lent Dalton Trumbo his credit name as Trumbo was under HUAC/Hollywood Blacklist at the time. I have an e-mail out to Eddie Mueller, the film noir expert, to find out more about the re-release and the reasons for it.

what was the reason here? i watched GUN CRAZY for the first time 2 weeks ago on TMC. the intro said it was the "prelude" to Bonnie & Clyde. very similar in many ways, EXCEPT the female was the "killer"..... certainly a good film.

Dear MOPO Members --

I made a big mistake in my listing on this. This poster is actually rolled -- it was never restored or backed. I must have used a template from another insert that was conservation-paper-backed when initially listing this. For those who do not know, the classic film noir GUN CRAZY was released twice. The first release was under the title DEADLY IS THE FEMALE (NSS #50-16) with a 1949 copyright. This is the rolled insert I am offering. The later, better-known title of GUN CRAZY involved a release later in 1950 with a completely different art campaign. Both releases were through United Artists.
