I always do this on more expensive pieces and find it silly that dealers don't
consider this.
Why wouldn't you want a chance to have two happy customers and a lot of
goodwill?

But of course i remember a few years back when one major collector sent me his
want list and about 3-4 months later I called to tell him that i had finally
picked up a couple of pieces on his list, he told me I was the first dealer he
had ever sent the list to that actually contacted him outside of whatever they
had in their existing inventory (and he had been collecting for many years).
That one gesture has led to a lasting friendship and many more successful
transactions.

This leads to a good question...

How many dealers are willing to contact a former buyer to let them know someone
new is interested in a poster you sold them?

Does this happen often? Are many deals done like this?

That's John Hazleton's site and John keeps images of posters
available for 2 reasons

1) so people can check them out. Images are good

2) in case someone wants one, and asks him for it, that he can keep
you on a want list in case he locates another copy, or if the same
copy comes back to him
