Sure would be a huge amount of work, approaching nightmarish. The process used I
think would be just as interesting as the setup ;-)

It sure is very kind of Bruce to share his setup information with others. Very
interesting too.

Hi Kirby, from what I know of photography, a high f-stop (small aperature) is
not needed for poster photography as the subject is stationary (thus longer
exposure can be done) and posters are very thin (depth of field not a problem).
There is actually a sweetspot for image sharpness which is in the middle of the
f-stop (aperature) range, not at the high or low end. Might be worth giving it
a go... Would be great to see your setup Kirby!

A good thing to note in Bruces setup is the distance the camera is from the
poster. The closer you get, the more the straight edges of the poster start to
curve (barrel), so, is good to stay back and use a longer fixed focal length
lens, or a zoom lens (but for possibly slightly lesser quality).

And Bruce while you're at it, you can tell us the manpower it takes to
photograph and process all that stuff.  We do it on a much much smaller scale,
and believe me it takes some time.
And who did we call for advice when we set up our rig?  Bruce.
We got some good advice, too.  But we use banks of fluorescents and time
exposures at a highf-stop.  We can do this because we don't have as many
posters to shoot and we do not need thespeed of strobes.

I can't tell a lie. You're right! But if I REALLY wanted to show off, I would
have shown images of all FOUR of our photography set-ups, each slightly
different from the others (how else do you think we can photograph 2,000 items
a week, more than most people photo in a year?)!

So I guess our set-up won't work?

Hi Everyone,This might be a stupid question coming from someone who’s been in
the business for a long time but could you tell me the simplest and best
looking way that you’ve found to photograph 1-sheet movie posters? I don’t
readily have a flat metallic area with room to shoot on so if that’s one of the
options kindly advise what you do for the back portion. If there are materials
needed to purchase this set up kindly let me know where you get them.I would be
interesting to see what other dealers have used to shoot posters rather than
just laying them on the floor and shooting them from a step ladder down. Many
thanks,irv
