yep.. changing tastes in American culture oriented mainly to those
under 35 is morphing collectibles markets towards more contemporary material.
another reason for this is that many older collectors who were able
to buy a War of the Worlds 1sh 25 years ago for $300 (or less) aren't
interested in paying current prices and leave the market as buyers.
They hold on for 10-15 years, or sometimes longer, during which time
they rarely add to the collections - if at all - and then they become
the next wave of sellers and yet another reason for the market
changing is mortality. We don't live forever and at some point we all
have to consider what to do with our stuff while we are still alive.
We must sell or, or we must bequeath it or we must leave it to our
heirs, who probably aren't interested in the stuff anyway.
Clark Gable was the biggest in his day.. ask people under 25 on a
street corner who he is today. Then of course ask them who Benjamin Franklin is
