I totally agree with you. I self-host and consequently I'm not having
any problem with my photos. Originally I decided to self-host because I
presumed Ebay would eventually charge for hosting your photos. FRANC

Dave

even when I did sell on fleaBay (pre-2005) I always used my own picture
hosting.
simply said.. I don't want anyone controlling something they don't have
to including fleaBay's image representation which sucks on every level.
As you well know, I include top quality images that are not pixelated.
Pixelation has always been a problem at fleaBay, plus they don't want to
be hosting what must amount to possibly billions of images or at least
100's of millions of them, causing them to decide what THEY will allow
as opposed to what I want to show.

I think it is a mistake to not self host in any case, and what's
happening now is the best example of that.

fleaBay doesn't understand why you need to see good pics for collectible
items and shoes or refrigerators or cameras don't have the same dynamic.
Any stock image serves for those items. Now you're at fleaBay's mercy in
yet another area

Speaking for myself, I never had pictures within the description area of
my listings. It wasn't necessary since I could just link to the same
image using the eBay picture loader's self-host option.

I'm not sure why any sellers who can self host ever stopped putting
pictures within the description area of their listings.

It never made any sense to me

While adding some listings yesterday I noticed that my self-hosted pics
are turning up at half the size they should be.

The reason I self-host is so I can post large images so potential
customers get a better idea of the condition of the item. (eBay hosted
pics are heavily compressed and near-useless.)

Anyway, it turns out eBay (in its usual if-it's-fixed-break-it mode)
arbitrarily went ahead and resized all the self-hosted pics to resolve
what was really a non-issue (broken links to a few self-hosted images).

The explanation is here (scroll down to eBay's response to complaints):

To summarize: eBay's answer to complaints was to suggest sellers insert
HTML pointing to their self-hosted images in the text of their listings.
In my case, that would mean editing over 250 listings in my eBay store.
For others, it will mean editing hundreds or even thousands of listings.
Great solution.

Just thought some of the sellers who post on here should know, since
eBay never gave notice it was planning on doing this...

Thanks,

Dave
