I learned today of the death of Ingrid Pitt one of the most gorgeous women to
grace the cinema screens of the British Film industry.
Ingrid was most famous for being one of the vampire girls of the Hammer films
most notably in The Vampire Lovers and as Countess Dracula. Ingrid led an
interesting life to say the least, she escaped from East Germany from the
umbrella of communism and then returned to act and escaped again. There are
many more anecdotes from Ingrid's life that made for a hard working actress and
a much loved lady of the screen.
For many she was a fantasy female from those heady days of Hammer Horror but
she also became one of the much loved character actresses pigeon holed as a
Teutonic siren or psycho. Ingrid has appeared in many productions over the
years but most notably she played the bar girl in the snowbound Bavarian bar in
Where Eagles Dare with Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood and Mary Ure.
