this is an interesting topic and it would be good to find out what the truth is
as, otherwise, Heritage could be accused of embroidering or lying about the
items that they have for sale.
Maybe Grey can tell us what the due diligence was that went into the claim
"they include Marilyn Monroe, who was not in the film, but was on the set as a
prank."
How did she manage to be on set?  What was the nature of this prank?  Who was
the intended victim?  Where has this prank been recorded?  And does this
information come from a reliable source?
Over to you, Grey......

I cannot prove it but as I said, it has been accepted by many
collectors over the years.

  hi
  grey

  so,
bearing in mind that you say "Is there any known proof of her
appearing on the set? Not that I am aware of" how do you square this
with the quite definitive Heritage description?

"Two of the lobby cards in this
fantastic set (the number three, and number six card) are rare finds, as they
include Marilyn Monroe, who was not in the film, but was on the set as a
  prank."

I have been watching the postings know
nothing more that a number of Monroe collectors have always been on the
lookout for the Monroe card(s) from the French Line. But like Rick, I have
heard of this card for years and this is the first time we have actually
  offered these cards.
I know there is varying opinions as to
whether the card six is Monroe but card three is certainly a more direct shot
  and likeness.
Is there any known proof of her appearing
on the set?  Not that I am aware of, but having collected Monroe cards
over the last thirty years I would often get the question, do you have the
  French Line card or cards?

Yes, it does look like it could be Marilyn
Monroe but it would be good to know for certain if she actually did appear in
any of the scenes. There is no mention of her being involved in the
film in IMDB. As there is a notation in the Heritage auction that
she appeared in card 3 and 6, maybe Grey Smith could give us some more
information on whether there is actually a record of this or if it is just
  anecdotal.

Rich, are you saying that because to you
she looks like MM? Or, is this the common wisdom among those in the know?

  Matt

Marilyn is definitely the gal in the yellow gown on the card where everyone
  is facing forward.

She may also be on the other card, but the coloring & printing of the
card make it difficult to be sure

look at the link provided by Dave Rosen

mm might have been visiting but considering how difficult it was for her to
get onto a set (on time, at least), i doubt she would be interested in a
  casual cameo.

Subject: [MOPO] Question:Does Marilyn Monroe Appear in a Lobby Card
  From THE FRENCH LINE (1954)

  Hi, Everyone,

Years ago, I heard that during the filming of THE FRENCH LINE (Jane
Russell,1954), Marilyn Monroe was on the set visiting Jane Russell, who'd
become her friend after they made Gentlemen Prefer Blondes together the
previous
year. I always heard that Marilyn Monroe appeared in one of the lobby
cards.  Recently, I acquired 6 lobby cards from that film, one of which
(card # 3) is a  song-and-dance sequence with Russell and another
brunette in the foreground---behind them are 4 men in tuxedos and cowboy hats
and a dozen beautiful women, one of whom I'm certain is Marilyn Monroe. Why
don't we hear more mention of "the Marilym Monroe 'French Line' lobby
card"?   I would think it would be quite collectable.
Can anyone offer any insight into this?  Hey, if that isn't Marilyn
Monroe, I'll eat all six of the lobby cards for breakfast!

  Thanks in advance,

  Rick
