MGM-HD is having showing of John Huston's film MOULIN ROUGE. Here at Oscar
Time few may remember that
this film was nominated for Best Picture and John Huston was nominated for Best
Director. The film won two Oscars.
There is a scene showing the lithograph of one of the famous Moulin Rouge
posters. Somewhere along the way I picked
up the factoid that Huston photographed the original firm that did the
lithography or the lithographer was still
alive at that point and appeared in the film or some such story. I thought
this came from John Huston's memoir AN OPEN BOOK,
but I looked at the book today and I could not find anything about that. Does
anyone know?
In any event, the movie is notable for it's unconventional use of Technicolor.
And it did win two Oscars for
Set Design / Set Decoration and Costume Design (both for color). But MOPO
members might be interested
to see this little sequence. The HD transfer is very nice. I guess this might
appear in BluRay at some point. The film occupies an interesting place in
Huston's
filmography.
