Crop looks a bit tight, wonder if it's trimmed.

MGM did, in a few cases, have three sheets for reissues. We had
a reissue three sheet for SAN FRANCISCO (1936) which was reissued in
1948. The three sheet was in color, the art was in the same style as the original, but the fonts were not. It also said MGM MASTERPIECE REPRINT on the poster.

THE WOMEN (1939) was reissued in 1947. I cannot read from this photo
what this poster says at the bottom, but I think it's "A Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer Picture".
MovieArt owns the Joan Crawford style, which
is a stone litho. This one looks like offset to me, which would follow a pattern that MGM often used: one of each type, pretty common for one sheets, less so for three sheets. Two three sheets for a big picture like THE WOMEN would not be uncommon.

Both posters are strong. I suspect this poster is original, but I can't be sure from what is presented. The pressbook would most likely settle it. The one we have is a sensational Joan Crawford poster. Was only auctioned once,
by Butterfield in 1996.

Hi, Jeff,

If MGM reissued 3 Sheets, I certainly don't think they would be as colorful and nice as the top 3 Sheet. I'd say it's probably just a different style. Hey, Kirby knows---I'm sure..

The artwork, to me, looks like a later release, compared to the one below? Does anyone have any further info on the top 3 sheet?

Thanks much.
