a very sad day.and an absolute 20th century icon. anyone with a passing interest in the Cleopatra furore is encouraged to read the wonderful "Cleopatra Papers", the correspondence of two MGM press agents desperately trying to keep the whole ship afloat in the face of Taylor's reckless insouciance. i'll be rewatching Virginia Woolf, marvelling at her brilliance and also marvelling at how Burton didn't also win an oscar (although to lose to Paul Schofield in A Man For All Seasons is no great embarrassment). neil
