re my sale of 4x5 transparencies on ebay I have learned so much in
two days
and i guess what Ive liked about selling memorabilia is I never stop
learning..
see I had no idea the liniage of the Cleopatra 4x5 except that I got
them direct from a theatre chain in 80s and that I knew they were old
and original.. but they say all these years as I wasnt sure what to
call them or what they were used for..
well Henry FORD once said something when asked if he knew everything
and i am paraphrasing,,, he said no but i can push this button and
have a man here that does and will enlighten me.. Edison did that
also he would see past experiments and refine them into workable
methods and inventions..that's what many people do in art and such is
plagerize examples of working models..
So when I asked MOPO for info I received the best answers from a
group of seasoned pros.. and thats how I learn is ask my mentors, my
peers for advice. To me thats how we learn.
then completely by accident when Kirby Mcdaniel questioned the
quality it unveiled a new thing i never thought off.... see much of
the posters and stills and film itself is decaying and in the case of
these 4x5s the image is sharp as a tack not blurry or anything its
the color in question as the colors can fade and i guess even the
image in some cases.. However the new age digital has over come that
and can even make them look better then day issued because the
computers can color correct and even make the resolution better,,
as who would buy these to put in a drawer??? I suspect they would
want to scan and put into a databse or make prints.. and these would
be perfect for that..
as far as duplicates.. so where all the actuall movie prints
duplicates of the film itself.. the resorer told me he belives they
made a restored print of cleopatra.. we could rent that and look at
the colors.. but then they may be different then original release..
so then I thought of the blessing of the question of the images...
1.) by having a poor sony mavica image I circumvented anyone stealing
the Image...which I never even thought off as I tryed to takea good
pic..:) and
two... I have probably made more peopel take a look at my crazy
Images on ebay By Kirbys suggestions of the colors and all then If I
would have hired J.walter Thompson to do a press campain..
I wont be surprised if they do a history channel special on this
In search of the Cleopatra transparencies... the secret colors mini
series.
and I might add the only one that suggested a value was Phil Edwards
and I was surprised about that noone would guess.
I think these days its hard to value things that have no record of
sale..
soI figured just to get someone to shoot a 4x5 pic would cost like
50-100
a shot// and the fact its genuine and of a great historic film with
great talents.. what would you sell it for? well I have them at 350
start thats
what less then 45.00 a image?
and the restorer sad the images can be printed excellent hes working
on Elvis photos that are being restored for Graceland that were
unpublished right now..
