It is exactly that lack of thinking by a big corporation (Texaco) that
resulted in the cancellation of  the longest radio sponsorship in (American?)
history, Texaco's of the Metropolitan Opera live radio broadcasts during "the
season,"
This sponsorship, that went on for a good 40 years or so, is said to have been
costing Texaco about 7 million US bucks per season to sponsor broadcasts that
by the 1990s had become (and still are) a worldwide institution.  When Chevron
acquired Texaco their Great Pooh Bahs saw the folly of pushing gasoline on
"rich" old Cadillac drivers (the operative word here was "old") and cancelled
sponsorship.
Many credit card holders, myself included, then cancelled their accounts and
Chevron-Texaco lost much income....as well as the good will of a high-minded
public.. many of whom, myself included, do NOT shop at a Chevron or Texaco
sign.
Doesn't seem to matter to them.

The Metropolitan Opera broadcasts were picked up by Toll Brothers, real estate-
I believe-- their "commercials" are simply an announcement of sponsorship.  The
Met broadcasts and now the pioneering HD telecasts in theatres continue under
Toll Brothers' sponsorship......and the obscure company now is gaining an
international name.  And I only buy no-name gas!!  (LOL)

Irv.. the mistake that corporations make in this case is that they could
sponsor the museum, lose money or whatever & get both promotional value & good
karma. seeing as they aren't interested in the Karma, and too many corporations
are run by people too young to be familiar with the material, it's a dead end..

In my humble opinion, the majority of the current public is not interested in
old Hollywood costumes or props. That’s one of the main reasons why Debbie has
not been able to consummate a deal for a museum. In another life I was an
executive at an entertainment company and had dealings with Debbie and her son
about financing a museum in Hollywood. Personally, I would love to see one, in
addition to the well done Hollywood Museum in the old Max Factor building, but
they are also having trouble bringing in enough visitors to make a profitable
business out of it. Therefore, I’m afraid the current market dictates that die
hard fans like us become the proud owners of these collectibles without there
being one great museum to display them.
