I have ben asked by one or two to explain a little about the chap who caused
all the furore at Cinevent.
I met him for the first time last year. It was not a great experience.
I found him ill mannered and I felt he insulted a couple of my friends.
I did have the misfortune of having him in my rental car for a couple of meals
we went to, that is me and the guys I hang out with, all of them gentlemen some
of them the biggest dealers in the hobby.
As some of you may know I was very ill and couldn't make Cinevent in 2008 and
2009. 2010 was a reuninon and a great tonic for me.
The joker in the pack was added with this new young collector who joined our
group. We and I say we as a whole are tolerant and accept all and sundry and
make them welcome...we all have the same in common we like movies and movie
posters and we enjoy our company.
Joker boy joined us and he started to take the piss (that is a UK vernacular
meaning he takes people for granted), he bought a poster from one of my chums
and now figured he was owed dinner and a bar tab from this dealer...that did
not sit right with me.
So on the few occasions we went to dinner at a local steak house the car
journey had these few instances happening.
As invaribly happens when the guys get together we shoot the breeze and
bullshit each other and we also notice things around us. On a nearby car lot
there were about three vintage Camero's which all of us looked at with drooling
saliva...yeah we are all petrol heads too. And I got to talking (boasting)
about my Harley.
"Hey Adrian. You know what? I got a Vespa a 125, it's a real babe magnet around
campus"
I couldn't help my self. "A Vespa?"
"Yeah thats right. It's really cool"
I get laid back, the rest of the guys get quiet "Where I come from thats what
the Mods used to ride...we call them hair dryers on two wheels"
"It's a real babe magnet"
One of the other guys "Let me tell you, a Vespa is not a babe magnet, that 1967
Camero is a babe magnet."
Me "A 125 you say?"
"Yeah"
Me "Thats got about as much power as a fart in baked bean can!"
The other guys where now sniggering almost snorting with laughter.
The meal went ok apart from joker-boy sponging off one of my pals and drinking
Stella Artois (Stella is expensive here in the UK let alone in the US) three to
every one we were drinking. You can imagine he got slaughtered. He set out to
do so on the guy who sold him a poster.
So it was the journey home that Joker Boy is now not feeling to well. I warned
him that if he threw up in my rental he was cleaning it. He didn't but he did
pass out. We stopped at the hotel, parked and I looked at one of my best pals
and said "Well whaat do we do with fuckwit here?" we opened his door and he
spilled out coming round. Now when I get in the company of my pals I do put on
the British accent, whether it be home counties, cockney, Scots, Welsh or
whatever takes my fancy. My pals did laugh at my remark. So he slides off to
bed for the night. Next morning it was a bad head for Joker boy and then when
he was feeling better he would say to me "Hey Adrian did you get drunk last
night, I did that was so cool...." That went down like a lead ballon with me.
Then we found out that he had a phobia against snakes, that was it it was my
mission to sell him a Reptile one sheet or Snakes on a Plane, we would start
talkling about Kill Bill and the snake code words...he visibly paled. I also
made him aware he was not in my favour the way he treated my pals.
Anyhow this year I learned he was coming along and he did not want to be any
where near me...well you can imagine I was heartbroken.
And then we had the saga that unfurled. I hope I haven't bored you but I
thought someone ought to come forward and tell it like it is.
Joker boy, Andrew the Vespa Rider, has some problems, it is very obvious...for
me it's the lack of manners. I know he has other issues that I won't go into,
suffice to say in the real world he needs to change his act.
