This *IS *a good article. It goes hand in hand with why I have to buy 100 cable TV channels, when I really only watch 5 of them.
The studios make the good movies and the bad ones (and the good TV channels and the crap ones) and they force theaters (and cable companies) to take the bad with the good. so that they make extra money. As long as they have so much power the situation will exist. I think price should be based on supply and demand. If Mission Impossible was $20 the opening week, then some people might put off seeing it until the price went down, and lesser movies could be priced cheap enough to create a bigger audience. And the Fishing Channel on TV should be something I buy a la carte if I want it, and if there aren't enough people who want it, then that is just too bad.
