it's all about what equipment you use and what you're doing with it
I have hi-res scanning equipment and I have a hi-res camera
depending on what final usage you have either one can have it's advantages, one of them being that shooting photos with a high-quality digital camera takes much less time than scanning equipment

the Canon DC-10 I have is almost as good as my scanners and if I had a Canon with a CMOS element rather than CCD element, the quality would be absolutely perfect. I believe that is the type of camera Heritage photographers would be using (CMOS) as for print media you need that quality. the Canon EOS 60D at 18mp CMOS and just $999 is a perfect tool for the average user wanting print-quality results at the lowest price. As you move up to the more expensive models, you get to the sports photography level where you can blow up an image to an 8 foot sign with no loss in picture quality and with super-high speed

you start talking about $15,000 and more expensive cameras and they'll be as good in quality as any Linotype-Hell drum scanner

Hi to you all
I have recently started scanning lobby cards instead of photographing them. I notice that many dealers including the major dealers still photograph lobby cards to add to their websites. Just curious as to whether anyone sees any problems with scanning lobby cards rather than photographing them.
Regards
John
