At the risk if being accused of being a stickler (hey, we're Mopolians
- accuracy in descriptions is everything) I'd like to point out that
Flashback isn't a virus and by strict definition isn't even a Mac
program.
Computer viruses are be definition self-propagating code which leap
from one infected computer to another without any action by the
operator of the source computer, post-infection. Viruses which hijack
your computer's address book and email copies of themselves out to all
your contacts are a perfect example. Flashback is malware which
requires you to go to a website which has been intentionally set up
(or poisoned by a third party) to download the code to your computer
and cause major mischief. It cannot be passed by the infected computer
to any other computer; you have to go directly to a website hosting
Flashback to get infected.
On a more persnickety level, I wouldn't call Flashback a Mac program
either, although it certainly runs on some Macs, and (to date) only on
Macs. Rather, Flashback is Java code which bypasses all the safeguards
in the Mac OS to install itself. It runs in the Oracle Java engine,
which in turn runs on top of the Mac OS, but only if Java has been
installed. People with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and higher don't even have
Java unless they specifically download and run the separate installer.
Also, older Macs which have PPC processors instead of the newer Intel-
based Macs can't run the Flashback Java code which has been compiled
only for Intel CPUs.
And that's enough of that. I now return you to our regularly scheduled
movie poster business.

This is a quick way to check to see if you have the malware.
You probably don't have it, but IF you do, you DON'T want it.
I'm sure this is not the only way, but it is one way.
It does involve downloading an application from the internet.
Our computers were found to have none of the malware.
This seems to be a good method. It was vetted by Austin MacWorks,
a really seriously good authorized Apple reseller.
I'm not, however, saying this is the Last Word in malware
protection or
that this is the BEST way to do this.
If anyone has any better ideas, feel free to speak up.
