According to Levon Helm's autobiography, Robbie Robertson ripped off the  
rest of the members of The Band for writing credits for a number of songs  
including "The Weight".  "The Last Waltz" is arguably the greatest rock and  
roll concert film ever (and I concur)....and Levon Helm had one of the 
finest,  most unique voices ever.  R.I.P.  Levon.

Levon Helm, Drummer and Singer for the Band,  Dies at 71

Levon Helm, who helped forge a deep-rooted American music  as the drummer 
and singer for the Band, died on Thursday in Manhattan. He  was 71 and lived 
in Woodstock, N.Y.

His death was announced by a  spokeswoman for Vanguard Records, for which 
he had recorded several albums.  He had been suffering from cancer for 
several years.
