I only got to watch Dark Shadows reruns recently and understand why there are so many loyal fans. I however think that it's great that Tim Burton has made his version a comedy and therefore preserved the original version for fans to enjoy. I think it's a great homage to the former.
I felt the same about 21 Jumpstreet which is a hilarious film. It is not at all like the series and preserves it for many generations later. I loved the series and Depp in it so I was reluctant about the film. The film stands on its own. I'm looking forward to seeing Dark Shadows the film and am glad the series remains the serious version of this gothic tale. Toochis BTW - Just saw Ricky Martin in EVITA! The guy is brilliant!!!! His voice, acting and dancing is nothing short of spectacular and what a presence. He blew me away. The tiny actress playing EVITA is a powerhouse. This show is not to be missed if you're in NYC. ________________________________ From: MnTwister <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, April 19, 2012 7:53:19 PM Subject: [MOPO] Jonathan Frid I was lucky to attend a Dark Shadows convention in NYC in the World Trade Center Marriott where the entire cast (except Frid) was there. There were several thousand people and it still goes on every year. I am planning to attend this year, sad because Jonathan Frid was to be there. But I did get to see him, I drove from Minnesota to Kentucky where he was doing an Edgar Allen Poe meeting and was lucky to get time with him backstage (after writing ahead about it). He was a kind man and signed 3 or 4 pieces of memorabilia and gave me a signed (to my name) 22 x 38" poster (duplicate of course) of the painting near the Collinwood front doors. It hangs proudly in my home theater. Ditto!!! I was one of those kids also? School was out at 3:00 pm. and I ran home to prepare for the next episode at 4! irv ________________________________ I am deeply saddened by this news. I was one of those fans who ran home from school to watch Dark Shadows. I owned the entire 200 VHS collection, and then purchased the entire collection on DVD and have watched it through 3 times now, all 1225 episodes. Thank goodness his fantastic work is available for everyone to see. What a strange coincidence that this happens when the new film comes out, at least he was offered a cameo. Jonathanfrid.com has alot of great photos and was run by him until his death, for those who enjoyed his work. I have a feeling he was not happy with the trailer for the new film, as most fans are not. Rest in peace Jonathan!
