"MovieArt uses both Lineco Transparent Paper and Book Mending Tape"
Unless the product names have been changed, I believe one is called Lineco Transparent Mending Tissue and the other is called Lineco Document Repair Tape. I believe the products are identical except that the first one is 1/2" in width and the latter is 1" in width. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kirby McDaniel To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, July 02, 2012 1:41 PM Subject: Re: [MOPO] Some basic items that EVERY collector should consider owning MovieArt uses both Lineco Transparent Paper and Book Mending Tape, and also University Products Inc. Archival Document Repair Tape. Both of these were locally available at art supply houses here in Austin. It is self-adhesive and does not require moistening. It lifts very easily with the use of Bestine and is always used on the backside of the poster. I am unaware of any archival issues with it and is used by book and paper archivists worldwide. Once placed on a tear it is so thin that the poster can be folded or handled as before the application but without further damage due to tears. Despite what the distributor says, Filmoplast Tape is NOT acid free, and it is NOT safe to use on old paper stock. Depending on the paper stock, if Filmoplast Tape is applied for a long time, there is a chance of discoloration and bleeding. If you really want to repair your (valuable) posters yourself, I would much rather recommend a gummed, japanese hinging paper, usually a rice or mulberry paper. The best quality has pre-torn edges, Hayaku brand is an excellent product: http://www.mmdistributors.com/Hayaku-Japanese-Hinging-Paper-Tape-p/1726.htm Also, if using it, be sure to moisten it as lightly as possible. Helmut http://www.filmposter.net *Conservation Tape (P90 Filmoplast tape) - This is tape that is safe for use on movie paper. You can use it on the back of items to secure tears.
