*San Francisco Auction sells movie poster for $118,000*

An unknown poster for the 1920 German silent horror movie /The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari/ was sold at auction in San Francisco last Saturday Nov. 3, for the hammer price of $118,000. The item was offered during an auction of 406 vintage posters conducted by PosterConnection, Inc (www.posterconnection.com <http://www.posterconnection.com/>). It was bought by a private collector.

Before, only two different German Caligari posters were known to exist (one of them can be found in the New York Museum of Modern Art). /The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari/ is considered a landmark in silent film history and may be the most influential German expressionist film of all times, famous for its exceptional, wildly distorted stage designs. The Caligari poster sold on Saturday is the only copy known to exist. The sales price was a record price for a poster sold by PosterConnection.
