Halsman published a book around 1959 called The Jump Book. He managed to get hundreds of celebrities to jump up in the air for a picture. This appears to be a covor photo from one of the editions. (see http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=halsman+the+jump+book&qpvt=halsman+the+jump+book&FORM=IGRE ) Halsman's rationale was that when a person is jumping, they let loose of their reserve and let out more of their natural self.

MY MOVIE MEMORABILIA & MORE

Hi,

 How are you?

PHILIPPE HALSMAN was a very interesting photographer who had a fun
side to him. I just put up a rare original vintage photograph taken by his wife YVONNE HALSMAN of her husband jumping in the air with MARILYN
MONROE. A little more typical of sexy Marilyn are photographs by
famous photographers like GORDON PARKS, ALLAN GRANT (her last photo
shoot), ERIC SKIPSEY, DICK MILLER and more including some great early
20TH CENTURY FOX original publicity photographs.
