Bruce-I am guessing this is directed at me and movie poster exchange. The reason for the change recently is because I run analytics constantly and what I have found is we have thousands of unique visitors per month but only 1/3 of these are registering, even though they spend an average of 12 minutes on the site each visit. I want to improve registrations and get more people engaged. Since implementing this, our registrations have increased significantly. Regarding your suggestion that it might turn people off, there is that possibility but that doesn't seem to be the case. So the point is not to "prove" anything, it is to raise the customer database, which increases sales, which benefits everyone. If it turns some people off, they are not contributing anyway, so it really is a non-issue to my thinking. You have a massive customer database and kudos to you. My business is relatively new and still a work in progress.
And to that end, I have wondered about the benefits of having extended auctions. I realize it maximizes profits for the seller, but all of my buyers I have asked don't care for it. I would be curious to know what people on this forum think about this. We built that option in when we designed the site and could do so and it certainly works well for you at emovieposter. I personally don't like sitting at the computer waiting on auction end. I typically get zero responses because I post so little but if anyone wants to share their thoughts I would be very interested. -Peter From: MoPo List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bruce Hershenson Sent: Saturday, August 31, 2013 9:12 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MOPO] Why do so many auction houses make you "sign in" to see their results? I don't understand why so many auction houses make you "sign in" to see their results. I don't get the point in it. I imagine SOME people register just for that reason, so it may get them a few extra "registered bidders", but what does that prove? And aren't there many others who click away from the site rather than register, so how can that be good. I could understand this if those sites were charging a fee to join, because then they would not want to give their information away "for free". But since there is no fee for registering, that can't be the reason. And this is NOT just "closed auctions". I also have seen it where you can't see CURRENT bid prices, and that seems even stranger to me, because maybe people would be encouraged to bid if they saw a low current high bid.
