*WHY *are we having this auction now? A couple of months ago one of our better consignors of stills called me up and said, "I notice that every time you have an auction of vintage stills, you have around 100 wonderful ones and a lot of lesser ones that seem like filler. Have you ever considered doing a section of your Major auctions that is *SOLELY *composed of wonderful stills?" I told him I was more than willing to try to do just that, and I sent an e-mail to all of our still consignors, asking them to send us only great stills, for this special auction. I expected to end up with 200 or 300 stills, but I got such a tremendous response that once I saw all the wonderful stills we had assembled, I felt it was unfair to them to have them sold within our *April Major Auction*, because there deserved to be spotlighted all by themselves! So I created this special auction which started today, and which ends Sunday the 23rd, beginning at 3 PM CST. If you have the slightest interest in vintage stills, please look at these soon, because you will need a *LOT*of time to digest this many wonderful images (you get kind of a sensory overload after you look at a hundred or more). And even if you are not a buyer of stills, you will surely love "window shopping" this many great images! This incredible group of vintage stills is divided into three sections: 1) 185 portraits of beautiful female stars, from all eras, and including all the legendary sex symbols! 2) 99 color stills, from the 1930s to the 1970s! 3) 715 black and white stills, including many great movies, portraits of stars, candids, news photos, and more! Also note that *not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film*, but it also represents the finest *CONDITION* group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that * ARE* in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction!
