We had a set of auctions of "newer" one-sheets (from the 1970s on, for the
most part) close on Tuesday, April 15, and we achieved some world record
prices for unfolded titles that are normally *VERY *hard to find unfolded!

Among the top results were:
*JAWS* unfolded one-sheet *$2,109*
*RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK* unfolded one-sheet *$650*
*EMPIRE STRIKES BACK* style B unfolded one-sheet *$584*

Why did these auction for so much? Starting in around 1980 the studios
would print unfolded versions of posters, but the National Screen Service
(NSS) mostly kept folding their posters for a few more years, but the above
three posters are NSS versions that were never folded, and they date from
1975, 1980, and 1981, which makes them extremely rare and sell for a huge
premium over the folded NSS versions.

But in addition to being really rare, people know that they can trust our
condition grading. If the same posters came up in a random eBay auction, or
at many other auction houses, they might have bid a fair amount less,
simply because they had to leave room for the possibility of overgrading,
which I call "the fear factor"!

I believe we have completely eliminated this fear factor, both because
anyone who has bought from us in the past knows that we grade completely
honestly, and of course, we also have a lifetime guarantee of authenticity,
which we have backed up over and over.

You can see all of our results from the above auction of one-sheets
here: *http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/date/2014-04-15/sort/4/archive.html
<http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/date/2014-04-15/sort/4/archive.html>*.
The prices of the best of these "newer" posters continue to set records, so
if *YOU *have any of these you have considered selling, why not consign
them to us, and it can be *YOU *getting prices like the above?

Of course, the above posters were also greatly helped by being in excellent
condition, and the fact that they were unfolded, when they are normally
found folded. There are collectors with a "comic book/coin/stamp/baseball
card" mentality who want the "highest grade known", and in movie posters,
grading is very subjective, but rolled/folded is completely *NOT *subjective,
so these guys love unfolded posters that are normally found folded, and
they will pay world record prices for them, when they know that they can
trust the seller 100%.

Incidentally, this set of auctions also proves something else. People often
ask me if there is a "good" time of year (or specific dates) to auction
movie posters or if there are "bad" times or dates. My finding, after doing
this for 25 years, is that the time of year and date is almost completely
irrelevant! If you have good items, they do good regardless of the date.
The 15th is a case in point. It is the final deadline for paying taxes in
the U.S., and you would think that many people would be either depressed or
broke on that day, and yet we achieved world record prices!
